Thanks for videoing this . I've been wanting a camper for some time and new ones are waaaaay out of my reach ! There is a guy that does videos showing Lance campers for sale at Chattanooga, Tn. The Channel is " It's Brad " Anyways the one I saw today was a Lance 975 , price $ 66,880 !, that is motivation ! LOL.

    The above treatment is perfect for just washing clothes and dishes and taking showers. Add a reverse osmosis system to the water that you drink and cook with and you don't have to worry about health issues. And if you are worried about using a reverse osmosis system for your drinking and cooking water. Don't. Because that whole thing about Taking minerals out of your body is a total myth. It's actually just pure H²O🧐

    The tape is only as strong as the mechanical bond to your paint. Should have just gone on the clean steel.

    Any chance you could send me a link where you get the tape from both the 3M and the corner sealant tape? I’m in the process of gathering materials to build a heavy duty 16 x 8.5 enclosed and planning on using the same tape system for .080 poly core.

    Bad Ass Brother! Your getting there! I don't do outgoing SM, but appreciate peoples efforts who do. Great channel, and it goes without saying that you do meticulous work my man!! I am building something very similar and not far behind in progress! I have a full stand up camper with a queen over cab bed all framed up out of 1x1 and 2x1 16ga tubing. Framing in the windows and other misc support today. I'm putting a hatch in the back wall of camper as a modular hole that I can pop a mini 500sqft AC in, stove pipe pass through insert, or just blank hatch cover. Bring what the weather calls for! Otherwise, yeah going with thin aluminum tread below the bed line, and thinking that I am going to go with ACM panels above, all VHB taped.. still deciding on the roof, as I have a hatch and would like it to be walkable in the rear. I love the fact that you're fleshing out the process here. I was thinking of masking the VHB locations and painting the rest of the frame (it will be stored in a garage bay), but the abrasion/primer thing has my curiosity piqued! A number of things really! I hope that your channel is as fruitful to you as it is the viewers, lots of good quality examples of gitten-er-done here! I like your logo too. Reminds me of a friend of mine's thoughts on sports/tv viewership.. "there are enough spectators in the world". Good work, keep it up!

    That looks good. Nice design. Although it is likely there will be galvanic corrosion since you are mixing steel and aluminiumin in direkt contact with each other..

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics 6 днів тому

      The paint and VHB provide separation between the steel and aluminum. The only area where there is any direct contact of aluminum and bare steel is in the rivets on the in-fill aluminum pieces on the cab-over section. Which is minimal. Maybe 15-20 rivets total. And is also backed up with VHB. More over this is the same exact construction I used for my DIY travel trailer project. Steel framing, aluminum panels, etc. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😊🙏

    First time on your site. Nice work! Problem I see is no venting on your square and rectangular tube. I don't know your climate, but if your temperature range is above and below freezing those tubes become reservoirs for condensate water. I have deconstructed structures similar to yours with a torch and had to drill holes to drain the black nasty water out of the tube before I could cut with the torch. I hate being negative Nellie, but you need to vent those tubes. I've been doing this kind of stuff for years.

    Your attention to detail and work quality are two of the things that have made this country great. What a super build. Very impressive. How do you plan on mounting it to the truck? My Four Wheel Camper uses a turn buckle system with eyebolts in the truck bed floor. Pretty easy to deal with. And I'm assuming standard truck camper jacks for getting it on/off the truck?

    Great idea. I just bought a used pop-up camper that only has 3 stands and so looking to rebuild the camper and make stands that are safe. Have 1 question though. On the inside where the stands slide into the camper corner you put that small bolt guessing so that the stand can't slide out of the pocket. How are you going to be able to access that once it is completed or are you not going to have anything holding the stand into the pocket? Thanks for the excellent video and explanation of your build.

    I would ditch that butal tape around windows and use a good quality sealant not silicone, redoing all my windows with butal tape it just seems to break down over about 6-7 years here in New Zealand where a commercial modified polyurethane sealant easy does over 10 now from my experience, I agree with your use of tape it is amazing shit.

    God I can't wait to see the final product! I dream of making one of these. Want to pick up a harbor freight welder and practice by making a frame like yours here. For the front compartment that hangs over the truck roof, how do you have it support the weight of people? I often see it as a bed. I'm worried it would sag or snap the welds and damage the truck roof. Seems like a structural engineer problem 🤔 Probably listed but the aluminum panels come standard in the size your using? You're doing it right imo by keeping it light weight and aluminum sheeting with minimal screw holes. Recently re-shingled my roof and I know the thought and consideration you need to give to something that will be rained on often. 😊 Can you stand in this when it's done or was that not on the checklist? Would be too tall? I'm 6' and would love to stand but seems like a tall order 😂 so I guess most go for at least sitting up position.
